The Golden Tulip is the realization of a long held vision by its founders Terry and Julia Bursey George who bring with them over 35 years experience in the jewellery trade.

Terry, a master goldsmith, began his apprenticeship at the young age of 15 in his hometown of London, England. There he worked for some seven years in Hatton Gardens, the hub of London’s busy jewellery district alongside some of the best jewelers in the trade, honing the skills necessary to become proficient in his craft. Ready to make it on his own, he worked for some time in London, the Isle of Wight and Pforzheim, Germany.

Things took an unexpected turn when he met his wife Julia in Spain and they returned to her native Newfoundland to live. Terry got his first taste of the Canadian jewellery business while working for many years with the well established Birks & Sons.

With Julia’s background in art and graphic design (her artwork is still displayed at their store) it wasn’t long before they were designing and making jewellery of their own and taking on private commission work.

With Terry’s expertise and Julia’s flair for design, it was always their intention to open something quite “out of the ordinary” when compared to most commercial jewellery stores. They wanted to offer their customer the kind of jewellery usually found only when traveling abroad or in the pages of magazines.

Finally, with their family grown and the eldest daughter already apprenticing to become a goldsmith herself, they began The Golden Tulip, Fine Jewellery. Ideally located in a heritage building in the downtown district of old St. John’s, the showroom's warm "old world" interior is the perfect place to showcase a gallery of some of the most interesting jewellery you’ll find anywhere. They have carefully chosen an ecclectic collection of jewellery artisans from around the world to display next to their own unique designs. They even feature their own “Newfoundland Collection,” inspired by the unique culture and rugged landscape they call home.

With an accent on quality, craftsmanship, and design, The Golden Tulip carries everything from the finest diamond jewellery to those affordable fun pieces that you'll purchase just because they were “calling your name!”

It is obvious that the owners have invested a great deal of themselves into The Golden Tulip where you’ll always receive that personal touch so rarely experienced while shopping these days.
